新年、明けましておめでとうございます。

昨年は未曾有の大きな出来事を通じて、私たちの心の中で「日本とは？」を気づかされた一年だったと思います。

昨年１２月１４日「ジャパンジェントルマンズラウンジ」というサイトを立ち上げました。皆さんと共に日本人の持つ美学を‘進化する和魂洋才’と位置づけ、再度あるべき原点に立ち戻り学ぶ会と位置づけています。

As institutions all over the world come crashing down, you must find yourself wondering
anxiously whether things are as they should be and what the future holds.

Here in Japan, in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami of March 11 you cannot
help but ask yourself what the really important things are in life.

You have to wonder whether all is well with the Japanese male ― just look at his summer
business fashion, or his manners of late.

We Japanese are supposed to be a people in whom the spirit of bushido is ingrained,
who combine a strong sense of duty with a deep compassion for others.

When Japan opened its doors to the world in the Meiji Period, in the latter half of the
nineteenth century, the Japanese attempted to combine the ideal of the Western gentleman
with that of bushido, in the process creating a cultural amalgam known as Wakon-yosai
― Japanese spirit, Western learning.

We have established the Japan Gentleman’s Lounge as an association committed to the
notion that the evolving ideal of Wakon-yosai is the true Japanese aesthetic, and dedicated
to returning to its roots.
